Brian Dale, PhD, DSc, FRCP
Brian Dale is a co-founder of Alpha Scientists in Reproductive Medicine and an internationally renowned scientist with significant contributions to reproductive science. He is currently the owner and Director of the Centre for Assisted Fertilization in Naples and Rome, and Director of London Fertility Associates, Ltd, in London. He is also founder and partner in the Swiss-based company, International Fertility Associates.
Brian was born in Stockport, UK. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Manchester in Zoology in 1972 with a First Class Honours. He then went on to receive his M.Sc. in 1973 and later his Ph.D. in Cell Biology from the same University. In 1977, Brian joined the Stazione Zoologica in Naples as a post-doctoral fellow of the Royal Society of Pathology, London where he embarked on studies focused on the mechanisms of fertilization, using invertebrate and vertebrate gametes. In the early 1990s, Brian launched research projects that led to the identification of the first activation event in the human oocyte and the role of cell-cell interactions in the human embryo. For his contribution to the understanding of basic processes in fertilization, he was awarded a D.Sc. degree in 1990 from Manchester University. His latest research is focused on mitochondrial activity in human oocytes and DNA damage in human embryos. Brian has published over 130 peer- review papers and 7 books on fertilization and embryology. He is a Fellow of the Society of Biology and Fellow of the Royal College of Pathology. He has been Chief Editor of the journal Zygote since its inception in 1993.
